From 6 to 19 May, the finalists for Best School Short Film and the finalists for Best Short Film of this seventh edition of the Quirino Awards can be seen on the Retina Latina and Filmin platforms: “Lulina and the moon”, directed by Marcus Vinicius Vasconcelos and Alois Di Leo and produced by Estudio Teremim (Brazil); “Almost forgotten”, directed by Miguel Lima and Dimitrije Mihajlovic and produced by Bap Animation Studio (Portugal); and “To Bird or Not to Bird”, directed by Martín Romero and produced by UniKo, Abano Producións (Spain); “Carcinization”, directed by Denis Souza, Universidade Federal de Pelotas (Brazil); “The Leak”, directed by Paola Cubillos, KASK & Conservatorium Hogeschool Gent, Vrije Universiteit Brussels (Belgium, Colombia); and “Shell shock”. directed by Emilio Ramirez Castro, Escena, Escuela de animación y artes creativas (Mexico).
*Retina Latina is a digital platform to watch Latin American cinema, public, free and legal access for citizens of Latin America and the Caribbean, with part of its collection open to everyone. The platform is composed of film entities from Bolivia, Ecuador, Mexico, Peru and Uruguay under the coordination of the Directorate of Cinematography of the Ministry of Culture of Colombia. *Filmin is an award-winning online film and series platform that has been operating in Spain since 2008 and in Portugal since 2016 with the support of MEDIA Creative Europe, being the first company to offer a flat-rate service in Spain. In parallel to the Forum, the Quirino Awards will serve as a framework for this professional activity that will focus on Ibero-American public television channels and their role in the development of animation projects, as well as on different cross-border cooperation mechanisms.
After the positive results of the first and second meetings, held in 2022 and 2023, Premios Quirino will once again bring together a group of Ibero-American public broadcasters in San Cristóbal de La Laguna to reflect on their programming, acquisition and co-production policies for animated content. Representatives from NTV/TVN Chile (Chile), RTP (Portugal), Canal Capital (Colombia), TV Cultura (Brazil), Canal IPE (Peru), 3Cat (Spain, Catalonia), EITB (Spain, Basque Country) will be present at the third edition of this meeting organised in collaboration with Radiotelevisión Española (RTVE).
