From May 5th to 18th, the finalists for Best School Short Film and the finalists for Best Short Film of this eighth edition of the Quirino Awards can be seen on the Retina Latina and Filmin platforms: “Capybaras”, directed by Alfredo Soderguit. *etina Latina is a digital platform to watch Latin American cinema, public, free and legal access for citizens of Latin America and the Caribbean, with part of its collection open to everyone. The platform is composed of film entities from Bolivia, Ecuador, Mexico, Peru and Uruguay under the coordination of the Directorate of Cinematography of the Ministry of Culture of Colombia. *Filmin is an award-winning online film and series platform that has been operating in Spain since 2008 and in Portugal since 2016 with the support of MEDIA Creative Europe, being the first company to offer a flat-rate service in Spain. The panel “Women in Ibero-American Animation” has established itself, after 6 years, as a space that strengthens networks within the industry, advocating for equity and the representation of all voices. In its 2025 edition, more than 100 women have been invited to participate in the Co-Production and Business Forum, including representatives from projects of the Animation! Mentorship Program and professionals with extensive experience from across Ibero-America. This event aims to encourage the exchange of experiences, generate new business and collaboration opportunities, and enhance the professional development of the participants.

FUTURES LABORATORY: THE NEW DEAL FOR THE FUTURE OF IBERO-AMERICAN ANIMATION

A strategic initiative driven by the Quirino Awards in collaboration with the Ortega-Marañón Foundation, aimed at consolidating a sustainable, innovative, and competitive ecosystem for the animation sector in Ibero-America. It is a space for collective intelligence where professionals, institutions, and experts from the animation industry and other sectors will work together to explore future scenarios, identify challenges and opportunities, and design innovative cooperation formulas.
This multidisciplinary project aims to connect talent, resources, and opportunities within the sector across the region, generating concrete proposals for the development of animation in Ibero-America. The results will be reflected in summary documents, inspiring visual materials, and a strategic roadmap for the industry.
