SARA
ÁLVAREZ SARRAT

PhD in Fine Arts, particularly animation. She was model maker and an animator in animation studios from Valencia. She made an internship at AWN magazine (Los Angeles, USA). She curated the exhibition Surviving Life: Collages de la película de Jan Švankmajer (2012). She made a research fellowship at the Holland Animation Film Festival (2014). She made the exhibition La casa Ena, winner of the artistic grant Ramón Acín (2016). Leader of the research group Animación: Arte y Industria (UPV). Coordinator of the MA in Animation UPV and the international student festival Prime the Animation!. She is part of the editorial committee of the research journal.

TANIA
DE LEÓN

Visual artist dedicated to experimental animation, drawing and engraving. Her artistic work has been exhibited in different cultural spaces, in different countries: Canada, Germany, Poland, Uruguay, Taiwan, Cuba, Argentina, Brasil and Spain (11 individual exhibitions and more than 50 collective ones). Her animation films have been projected in different festivals, such as: London Experimental Film Festival, Bogotá Experimental Film Festival, Animac Lleida and Animasivo, among others. Graduated in Visual Arts and PhD in Fine Arts. She acquired MA in Multimedia Production for the Internet at Polytechnic University of Valencia (UPV) and another one in History of Art at Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM). She was honored with one of the most important academic awards in this country, the National Acknowledgment for Young Academic in 2013.

MARCELO
DEMATEI

Audiovisual director, draftsman and graphic designer. Author and developer of transmedia projects from his studio Piaggiodematei, in Barcelona, ​​where he has participated in the creation and direction of animated TV series such as Old Folk’s Tales. Research professor at the Tierra del Fuego National Univeristy (Argentina), was Director of the MA in Computer Animation of the Pompeu Fabra University (Spain). PhD in Fine Arts, he’s part of the scientific advisory committee of the research magazine ‘Con A de Animación’ of the Polytechnic University of Valencia. He has published research articles in magazines, books and congresses. He has received several international awards. In 2018, Penguin Random House, through its label ‘Reservoir Books’, will publish its first graphic novel that he signs with the screenwriter Mario Torrecillas.

ALFONSO
RUIZ

Doctor in Fine Arts specialized in image. Pioneer in design of animated graphics and digital effects in Spain. Cofounder of ‘La Mirada Producciones’. Art director in several short films and feature films. He was supervisor of digital effects in the fiction film “Star Troopers” by Ricardo Ribelles. Founding partner of La Casa Animada, animation production company where he has been co-scriptwriter and director of the children’s program ‘El Club de Archi’, awarded by the Parliament and the Office of Education of the Canary Islands Government. Academic coordinator of the Interuniversity MA’s Degree in Design for the tourism sector by the Universities of La Laguna, Barcelona, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and Basque Country. Dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of La Laguna since 2008.

TAVARES

Artist, professor and researcher. PhD in Fine Arts, with the thesis The complex relations between art and politics in Western culture. The political art as institutional contradiction. General Director of CONFIA (International Conference on Illustration and Animation) organized by Polytechnic Institute of Cavado and Ave’s School of Design in the cities of Ofir, Porto, Braga, Barcelos and Guimarães. Associate Professor at the Polytechnic Institute of Cávado and Ave, were she’s Director of the School of Design, and also Director of the MA on Illustration and Animation.

VIÑOLO

Doctor in Media Communication with a PhD in the industrial model of American CG animation. He is academic coordinator of the animation bachelor’s degree at Academic Coordinator at U-tad, Technology and Digital Art University (Madrid), co-author of the book 100 years of Spanish animation (2016) and correspondent of Spanish and Latin American animation for the digital publication Cartoon Brew.
