IBERMEDIA NEXT announces 14 beneficiary projects, which Spain, Italy and Portugal will co-develop with 10 Latin American countries through technological innovation in animation.
IBERMEDIA NEXT has announced at Animation! Ventana Sur the resolution of its call for grants for the application of new technologies in digital animation, financed with European NEXT GENERATION EU Funds from the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan. The fourteen projects selected stand out for the nature of their stories and for their commitment to open source software, virtual reality and other disruptive technologies applied to different production processes such as AI.
The announcement was attended by Nicolás Batlle, President of the Ibermedia Programme and President of INCAA; Jara Ayucar, Director of Marketing Policies of the Instituto de la Cinematografía y de las Artes Audiovisuales ICAA (Spanish Ministry of Culture); Víctor Herreruela, Coordinator of the Technical Unit of the Ibermedia Programme; José Luis Farias, Executive Producer of the Quirino Awards and member of La Liga de la Animación Iberoamericana; and Silvina Cornillón, Manager of Animation! Ventana Sur Latam Audiovisual Market.

These projects will be boosted by an overall financial contribution of €2,087,775, to which will be added a complete personalised programme of professional mentoring that encompasses concepts such as consultancy, promotion and dissemination, including accompaniment to key events in the sector. The detailed monitoring of the Assessment and Consultancy Committee, who have studied each project in detail, will be key at this point.
Key to this first edition of IBERMEDIA NEXT has been the alliance with the Quirino Awards and La Liga de la Animación Iberoamericana, an entity to which the Quirino Awards, Pixelatl and Animation! Ventana Sur. The presentation of the beneficiary projects took place within the framework of Animation! and within the framework of Ventana Sur, considered to be the most important audiovisual market in Latin America.
About the IBERMEDIA NEXT pilot call for proposals
The IBERMEDIA NEXT call for proposals opened on May 12th and ended on August 21st, during which time 104 different projects were submitted, of which 93 were pre-selected. After being evaluated, the Evaluation and Consultancy Committee selected the 14 projects with the highest scores, a decision subsequently endorsed by the Intergovernmental Council of the Ibermedia Programme at its XXXIII Ordinary Meeting.
IBERMEDIA NEXT is an initiative of the Ibermedia Programme that hosts pilot projects that support productions other than those traditionally supported by the Programme. The call is aimed at the application of new technologies in the field of digital animation and audiovisual content with a high percentage of animation. It is part of Component 25 ‘Spain Audiovisual Hub of Europe’ of the European Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan and is financed with NextGenerationEU funds.
It also has the collaboration of the Quirino Awards for Ibero-American Animation and the support of the Ibero-American Animation League, to which the Quirinos belong along with Animation! Ventana Sur and the Pixelatl Festival.
